Monday 4 May 2020

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope you had a super weekend!

I went for a really nice walk from Redcliff to Sumner on Saturday! It was such a beautiful day and I loved getting to dip my toes in the water!

I also set up my awesome green house! I have planted some seeds and now I have to wait patiently while they grow! I am bit worried about it blowing over in the wind so that is why I have pavers on the ground!

Anyway, feel free to email me and let me know what you got up to! I would love to hear from you!

Enjoy your Monday!

From Mrs Anderson

Below is a picture of my new green house! I have planted some stunning orange tulips in the pots beside as well! I am so EXCITED for them to flower!

OK well… mini drum roll please…. the winner only by one vote of the ‘Worlds Best ANZAC baker of the Universe’ goes to DAMIEN!!!! Yahoo! It was very very close!

Congratulations to all the bakers! I would have eaten every single one so in my eyes you are all winners! I like the creativity as well! ANZAC biscuits with chocolate, with raisins and a ginger crunch version. Mmmmhmmmmm! How delicious!

Mine were the ones with orange flowers if you hadn’t already guessed! J

Anyway, I hope you have had a great week and I hope you have a super weekend.

I am really looking forward to going to the beach so hopefully I can go this weekend!

Thanks for all your emails.

Have a great day!

Kia ora Room 5!

I hope you all had a super day yesterday! It felt very strange being back at school without you all but I am sure you will all be back before you know it! Isaac was the only Room 5 member and I bet he was missing all his classmates! We are all hanging out between Rooms 1 and 2, which is pretty fun!

We had a little mouse scuttling around in Room 5 yesterday while I was there so at least the classroom hasn’t been totally alone! It was so nice to walk into our little space and see all your desks and artwork on the wall! I am really looking forward to getting back to teaching you all in Room 5!

Not a lot of news today… just a little reminder that it is completely up to you what work you would like to do whether that be our class one or the ministry one! You can choose!

Thanks also to those have voted on the ANZAC biscuits make sure you do this before 3pm today!

I will collect the results and then let you know Friday morning!

Have a fabulous day!

Kia ora Room 5!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend with your bubble! I enjoyed standing at the end of my driveway at dawn on ANZAC day with my lantern, it was super cool to hear someone in the distance playing ‘the last post’ on a bugle.

I also completed some crafts…

My bee cross-stitch is finally done! Yahoo – I hope my baby niece will love it for her bedroom!

I also helped Tom create this awesome little egg house for my eggs! My job was to decorate as you can probably tell!

So today I am back at school and it is a little strange to not have you all here with me but I will still be keeping in touch with you via email, I may just not be able to get back to you as quickly as I would like but I will try my best!

I have also attached the ‘Worlds Best ANZAC Baker in the Universe competition’ So your job ‘if you can’ is to vote for the best looking biscuit! Send me an email with your vote – pick a number and then on Friday once I have collected all the votes I will announce the winner. I have also included my entry… I wonder if you can tell which is mine! J

I hope you all have the very best day and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Friday 24 April 2020

Kia ora Room 5,

Happy Friday!

I hope you all had a fantastic day yesterday! Today I have picked a few ANZAC activities for you to try out!

Special thanks to the Reids and to Gamesons for sending through some awesome activities as well! I am also appreciative of any cool learning suggestions so make sure you send them through.

Here’s a cool one from the Gameson family. Could you decorate your front gate with poppies? Maybe you could stick them on a window in the house? If you do just make sure you check with Mum or Dad before cutting up any reusable bags!

Just a little reminder that Monday will be a public holiday but I will be back in touch with you all on Tuesday with another lot of home learning activities!

Have a super weekend, enjoy ANZAC day in your bubble and I will be looking forward to getting in touch with you on Tuesday!

From Mrs Anderson

P.S Check out my bug trap… a hollowed out potato! I am going to leave in the ground over the weekend and check morning and night! I just really hope that Dolly Puffton doesn’t find the bug trap first….

Thursday 23 April 2020

Kia Ora and Welcome to Thursday!

Wow, I had lots of lovely emails yesterday showing me what all you clever people have been up to in your bubble! I have seen some spectacular marble runs, read some super 6 sentence stories and I enjoyed hearing about what you can see out your bedroom window and the things you appreciate in lockdown! I am very impressed Room 5!

I have been busy doing some crafts… I attempted my ANZAC lantern. I only had two colours at my house to choose from so I did what I could! I am excited to have a candle lit in it when I stand at the end of my driveway for the ANZAC dawn service!

I also baked a delicious apple and feijoa crumble last night for my dinner with fresh feijoas off my tree.. no crumble photo unfortunately because I ate it too fast so here is a picture of one of my feijoas

I also attempted my very first dried floral wreath! I love dried flowers and I had pretty hydrangea in my garden (that’s the flower in the middle) so I thought I would create something pretty with it…

And last but not least I am working on a bee cross stitch… nearly finished. Just need to add a little more yellow and some wee bees flying around and then I am done! I will send another picture once it is complete!

A couple of nature inspired projects today! I made my garden but then realised we are heading into winter so probably not the best time! Also, the one plant I did have in there my chicken went and scratched up! I still had lots of fun creating though and I will be looking forward to planting some herbs in it towards the end of winter!

I am going to also make a bug trap to and maybe we can compare what insects we collect! You have to make sure though that you look after all creepy crawlies and that once you have trapped them you have to let them free so they can carry on with their day!

Have a magical Thursday!

Wednesday 22 April 2020

Kia ora and Welcome to Wednesday 22nd of April

I hope you all had a fabulous Tuesday! How good was the sunshine?

I really loved watching Brooke Neal speak live yesterday about her sporting journey and even cooler was the fact that Room 5 got a very special shout out thanks to Ben!

I learnt some really cool things from her chat, one being how to deal with an ‘annoying noisy neighbour.’ Brooke described this as being those pesky voices in your head that tell you that you aren’t good enough and making yourself feel bad. So to stop that she closes her eyes and counts to 4 while breathing in and then counts to 6 while breathing out!

She also talked about creating your own ‘I am’ statements that you can say to yourself before you do something big. Hers were “I am calm, I am clear, I am confident and I am here”

Maybe today you could write down your own ‘I am’ statements

She also wrote down her goals and made a vision board full of pictures and quotes to help her reach her dream. If you have goal or a dream why don’t you have a go at making one of these today!

Find pictures from magazines, the paper  or online and write your goal somewhere clearly so you can look at it everyday!

Below is an example:

There are so many examples online for you to research if you are keen to create one while in your bubble!

Thanks to all who are sending through pictures – just a reminder that I will forward them onto Mr R so he can put them on the school website. If you are not comfortable with that then please let me know!

One last thing, a few families from school received their learning packs in the mail yesterday! Would you mind emailing me to let me know if you have received them!

Thank you! J

I hope you all have a fabulous day!

Tuesday 21 April 2020

Kia ora Room 5!

I hope you all had a good day yesterday and you managed to get a few tasks completed!

I was super impressed with the treasure hunts from Friday that some of you have created! So much fun! Well done!

Thanks to those who gave ‘Prodigy’ a go… when you first sign up you have to complete some tasks that are sort of like a placement test which tells me what skills you still need practice with. So if they are a little tricky then that’s ok – they are supposed to be! Don’t worry if you get them incorrect! I think I can only set tasks once everyone has completed the first placement test part so we might just carry on with Prodigy when we are back at school!

I am still waiting for an empty milk bottle to create my special ANZAC lantern… hopefully Tom will finish the bottle of chocolate milk very soon! With ANZAC day coming up I will start to include some different ANZAC activities that you could try, however if you know of any that you think would be cool for the class to do then let me know!

Don’t forget to watch the Facebook live show with Olympic hockey playing star talking about ‘Excellence’ today at 11am! Here is the link https://www.facebook.com/nzolympicteam/posts/10156779316205213

I will be watching also! It only goes for half and hour… hopefully it will be interesting!

I think that’s all from me today!

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Monday 20 April 2020

Kia ora Room 5!

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and spent some fun times hanging out with your whanau!

This week will be very similar to last week with me sending you through a short letter for the day and a few tasks to have a go at if you wish!

On Friday I tuned into the live Olympic Ambassador Programme online on facebook! Did anyone else? I know Ben emailed me to say he was keen on watching it! I thought it was pretty cool, Ritchie Patterson spoke about his journey to become a gold medallist in weight lifting and also about resilience! These facebook live shows will run on Tuesday and Thursdays at 11am for half an hour. It would be awesome if some of you could tune in this Tuesday at 11am as current Black Sticks star, Brooke Neal, will inspire on the theme of Excellence, which is pretty cool to know that an Olympic Star will talk about a value that we uphold as well! If you do watch, make sure you comment on the live comment section and say Hi from Room 5 at Dunsandel Primary I will be watching!
Here is the link to join  www.facebook.com/nzolympicteam

It was great to see Damien trying out the Mr Demaio YouTube songs on Friday as well! If you still need a little practice on your timestables definitely check this out on YouTube – some very catchy tunes to learn your multiplication in no time at all! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb7Q5jsm9eh_fdDPQmVpyp4XRu-raUbHc

I have loved receiving your pictures of you getting crafty! It brings the biggest smile to my face! I have forwarded them all on to Mr R so he can put them up on the school page! Make sure you check them out!

Thanks so much to those that have sent through some recipes… if you have time please do this so we can make an absolutely scrumptious recipe book! My mouth is watering at some of the recipes already!

Any questions please email them through!

Have a super day!

Kind regards

Mrs Anderson

Kia ora Room 5!

Happy Friday to you all! First week of Term 2 done and dusted! Pretty different to what we are used to right??!!

I have sent through some more tasks and challenges for you to have a go on today! Remember they are just options so if you have something else in mind please feel free to go ahead and complete!

If there are any photos of you out there enjoying some learning tasks either on your own or with family then send through a picture and I will forward on to Mr R to upload to our school page! Make sure you check it out to see if you spot any fellow class members!

Don’t forget to tune in to the learning programme tomorrow 11 – 11.40am for some awesome lessons on maths and literacy! Has anyone been watching them? If so, what are your thoughts?

Thanks so much to all the emails and work that has been sent through already! I have loved reading it all, if it’s not possible to send through then no worries at all make sure you keep it super safe so I can read it when we get back to school!

You are all super stars and even just managing to master just a little bit of your learning tasks is impressive so keep up the great work!

I hope you all a super duper weekend and I will be looking forward to getting back in touch with you all on Monday!

Any questions please don’t hesitate to email them through!

Kia Ora Room 5!

I hope you all managed to have a go at some of the activities that I sent through to you yesterday and if not that’s OK – maybe you can have a go today! I really loved seeing some of your writing yesterday and a saw some pretty sweet bedrooms as well! I cant wait to show them all when we get back to school! Yesterday I sent through a timetable to help you organise your day! If you didn’t get that please email me and I will send you through another one!

Did you watch any of the Learning Programs on TV yesterday?

Here is a schedule for today if you are interested.

For the past couple of years the Year 5 and 6’s have been fortunate enough to have an ex Olympic Competitor come to school to talk about their story! Last year we had a member from the Olympic Bob Sleigh Team! It was really interesting listening to how they follow values just like we do with our PRIDE values. If you interested in this check out the below blurb!

‘The Olympic Ambassador Programme is online! This Thursday (16th) at 11am Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Richie Patterson, will present for 30 minutes live on the NZOC Facebook page on the theme of resilience. Richie will inspire with his own stories of resilience and also get the audience up and active with an exercise or two.

During lockdown an Olympic Ambassador will present live on our Facebook page every Tuesday and Thursday at 11am. Each one will have a values-based theme. Next Tuesday, current Black Sticks star, Brooke Neal, will inspire on the theme of Excellence – in other words being the best you can be’

One of your tasks today is to write out your favourite recipe from Lockdown! I would love to create a class recipe book! I have shared my favourite recipe with you! Maybe you could have a go at baking it! If you do make sure you send through photos and a taste rating out of 10!

Happy Thursday to you all!

Wednesday 15 April 2020

Hi Room 5!

How are you all? I am excited to send you all an email and get in touch! I have missed you all so much!  I am looking forward to hearing about what you have been up to these past couple of weeks, how your Easter was? (I bet a little different from what you had originally planned) and I’m also excited to share some fun learning activities with you all, for you to have a go with over the next couple of weeks!

I’ve been having a lot of fun pottering around in my garden. I created a circular herb garden out of bricks that I found behind my house, I’ve been doing a lot of biking around the Templeton area, I have read three whole books and I have been doing some experimenting with my baking! I tried to bake chocolate brownies using a can of black beans instead of flour… let’s just say even my chickens didn’t particularly enjoy the taste! 🙂

I would love for you to email me back and let me know what you have been up too! Hopefully your baking (if you have done any) would have been a little more successful than mine!

Every day I will send through an email outlining some tasks that you could do! There will be 2 options for each learning area. Tomorrow I will send through a PowerPoint that I have created that has a range of independent tasks that you can do as well! Pick and choose and make sure you send through what you have been learning! It’s really important that if you have any questions about your learning that you get in touch! Email me anytime between 9 and 3 on weekdays and I will do my best to email you back as soon as I can! The learning activities that I have sent you – just do your best, have a go and if there is anything that you think the class might be interested in doing then please email me and I will share it with everyone!

I have sent an example of a timetable that you could follow but I know everyone will have a very different way of learning from home so you need to do what works for you and your family! Technology maybe a little tricky to use if you are sharing with the rest of the family so it might be a good idea to come up with a game plan of how much technology time you can have each day and plan your timetable around that? Please keep any of the learning you have done, I would really love to see it and I would love for you to share it with the rest of the class once we get back to school! Maybe you could make a folder on your computer desktop and keep all files in there or find a safe space in your house to keep all your hard copies. Complete everything to a high standard! J

I know this is all a little crazy but also it is pretty exciting that one day you will be able to tell your children and grandchildren about the time when you had to learn from home! So let’s get stuck in and give this our best shot, remember to have a ‘growth mindset!’ #yesyoucan!

Looking forward to hearing from all you Room 5 super stars!

Kia Ora Room 5!
This is just a little message to check in and say hi and to give you all a bit of an update about what’s coming up in the next few weeks!
Well done to those who have already started with their online learning. I have been able to read the stories you have written on ‘Writing Legends’ and I have written some comments on your work so make sure you check those out! I have also seen what stories you have been reading on Epic so well done! Keep up the amazing work!

As you will be aware this is the last official day of Term 1 as we enter the new school holiday time Monday 30th March – Tuesday 14th April. Over the next two weeks we will be on holiday. Term 2 starts Wednesday 15th April where our home-based online learning journey continues! I will be back in touch on or just before this date to provide some more learning activities to complete while at home. If you find anything awesome over the break that you think Room 5 students will be interested in feel free to share with me via email!

I hope you all have a super holiday, keep safe, look after each other and enjoy some special time together.

Kind regards

Mrs Anderson

Kia Ora Room 5!

Wow – who would of thought we would be learning together online! It’s going to be a bit different and it may take a little to get used to but I think it’s going to be a lot fun!

As you will all know from our experiences in the classroom, technology can be a little tricky sometimes… so if you are struggling to log on or need some help then email me during school hours 9am – 3pm and I will reply as soon as possible!

My email address is georgina@dunsandel.school.nz

Also, feel free to email me to say hi and let me know what you have been up too! (I certainly am going to miss seeing you every day!)

For these next few days just spend time exploring the websites so you are familiar with them. Once ‘school’ starts back up again through distance learning then I will assign more specific tasks to your learning, please make sure you are checking emails every day!

I hope you all keep safe, enjoy the time with your family and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you all very soon!

Kind regards,

Mrs Anderson

Below is an outline of the activities that you can have a go at completing over the next few days.

Reading

Check out Epic Reading – this website will allow you to pick a story from a huge library of online books. Each day pick a story to read and complete the quiz that goes along with it!

Writing

For writing have a look at www.writinglegends.com.
You will need to log in and enter your username and password. Choose one of the writing prompts to write your story. I will look forward to reading what you have written. At this stage, make sure you only click on the ‘Writing Legends’ tab. Don’t forget to include WOW words, full stops and capital letters!

Maths

If you still have not mastered your timestables then check out this online website! https://www.timestables.co.nz/speed-test/

Make a set of times tables flash cards or have a go online https://www.helpingwithmath.com/resources/online_flashcards/flashcard_multiplication_x02.htm

If you are a whizz then spend 10 – 15 minutes each day on Studyladder. If you are stuck on of the activities then make sure you go back and give it another go!
