Kia Ora Te whanau!

Again we have had a lovely weekend with the weather more like early autumn than close to winter. Although we really could do with some rain I must say I am enjoying being able to catch up on outside jobs and now that we can burn garden waste I had a fantastic time! I think this is the latest I have ever irrigated the paddocks. I hope you are also enjoying the warm days.

Hopefully today we will hear the news that we are soon moving to lockdown level 2 and that all the children can come back to school next Monday 18th May. I know I am certainly looking forward to getting back to normal and enjoying my days at school with my class.

I can only thank you for the time and patience that you are putting into supporting your child’s learning at home. I am very keen to see and hear about all the new learning they have been doing from cooking to tractor driving, building to designing and creating art works. It really has been an exciting time for the children. Please remember if your child is struggling to do any work or is not interested then don’t make it a battle. It will be fine and they can get back into learning once they are back at school.

However if you do want any extra worksheets or reading material, please let me know and I can get some more for you to pick up from school..

In the meantime, take care, keep smiling and look for the light that I hope is at the end of the tunnel soon!

Fingers crossed for a good announcement at 4pm today!

Enjoy your day and keep being kind to the people in your bubble.

Monday 4 May 2020

Hello everybody!

I hope you had a lovely weekend. I certainly enjoyed the sunshine and got lots of outside jobs done. I only had to queue for 10 minutes to get into the supermarket on Saturday and I think that is the quickest its been!

Bubble school is great and I am enjoying working with the variety of age groups.

I am just checking in with you to make sure that you have enough to do with your work packs and the booklets that the Ministry of Education sent you.

I have loved seeing the photos you are sending of all the work you are doing at home. You can check the school website to view photos and find out what the other children in the school have been up to.

I am here at school working in our school bubble but I am still available to help you all at home with emails. If you want me to organise you some more worksheets and activities, just let me know what you want and I can make up some packs and we can arrange for you to collect them from school in the next day or 2.

I am hoping that we can all be back together at school soon, including some new friends who have turned 5 during the lockdown.

Enjoy your day and keep being kind to the people in your bubble.

Tena Koutou!

Happy month of May!

Well you have made it to the end of another week in bubble school! Well done everybody!

I can tell from your emails and photos that you are really enjoying the work packs and I can see that you are all doing fantastic work. Awesome job everyone, including mums and dads. J

Thank you for being so kind to all the people in your bubble. I know it gets harder the longer you stay together but you are doing a super job and hopefully next week we will hear some great news about all coming back to school the following week.

This week has been very different for me too. It is a little bit strange with only 7 children at school and they are all different ages. They are getting along well together and working very hard on their work packs and online learning. I think Mr R has put up some photos on the school website so you can see some of the things we are doing.

Remember to get outside and enjoy the lovely sunny days we have been having. I have enjoyed seeing photos of you riding motorbikes, driving tractors, digging the garden, riding your bike, going out for a walk and playing in the garden.

Well done team. I am so proud of you all for being super awesome.

Have a great weekend doing all of your favourite things.

I’ll write again on Monday.

Kumusta everybody!           (How are you? in Filipino)

Welcome to Wednesday.

I hope you had a fabulous weekend break. Once again the weather really looked after us and I hope you were able to get out and enjoy the sunshine. We need to make the most of it while we can because you never know when winter will come knocking.

It seems most of you have now received your learning pack from The Ministry of Education and there seems to be some fantastic resources according to the feedback I have received. Please be aware I only seen photos of the contents of the pack and not what is inside the reading or work books. Please just do what you think your child is able to. If the reading material is too hard then read the stories to your child and talk about the content of the storyline. Ask their opinion or for a prediction about the story while reading.

Yesterday we had a teacher only day to prepare for the very few children who are back at school today. This also gave me time to prepare new learning packs for the children with resources specifically designed for their age and stage of learning.

The packs will contain enough work to see you through the 8 days until the end of level 3 lockdown. I have provided maths, handwriting, spelling/alphabet, reading and creative time activities

This pack will be available for collection from the bench just inside the school Green Gate – outside Room 2, between 9.30 and 1.30 tomorrow. As the school is currently under very strict health and safety protocols – we cannot have the packs for pick up in the office area like last time – nor can we bundle them in the letter box. If you are unable to collect your pack, please email me and let me know.

I will of course be avail to email you and answer any questions. If you want to send any pictures of what you are doing at home, I would love to see them.

Enjoy your day.

Bonjour (French greeting)

Welcome to Friday.

Congratulations! You have made it to the end of another week at school in your bubble. J J. I am so proud of all of the amazing work you are doing together. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the mums and dads who are making this learning possible and for having a go at what can be a tricky task. So great job all of you!

Remember that tomorrow is ANZAC Day when we remember the soldiers and feel grateful for all the work they do to keep us safe. There are lots of fun activities and stories to listen to online. Try and google some of these and enjoy them.

Monday is a public holiday so there will be no bubble school! You can all have a well-deserved rest! Remember to take some photos of what you have been doing and send them to me next week.

Thank you for being the kind and cooperative children I know that you are and always be helpful to the people in your bubble.

Enjoy your day in what seems to be another glorious sunny day!

If you have just received a learning pack from the Ministry of Education (and you haven’t contacted me) could you please email and let me know.

Thanks everyone. Enjoy the long weekend.

Talofa (Samoan greeting)

Welcome to Thursday.

Wow we are nearly at the end of another week in bubble school.

Thank you so much for all of the hard work you are putting into being both excellent pupils and teachers!

Some of you are now a receiving pack of work from The Ministry of Education. As I haven’t seen what these look like I urge you to just have a go at the reading books and activity sheets provided. They are for year 1 children and because that involves a wide range of levels it is ok to just choose what you think your child can do comfortably. My understanding is that the work should las about a week but as I haven’t seen one I’m not sure how much it contains. If somebody wants to spread their pack out and send me a photo that would be helpful thanks. If you think the work is too hard then please carry on with my activities.

I hope you have all learned something about ANZAC Day and the reason we celebrate. There are lots of different activities online that you might like to try. Just use google!

Enjoy this fabulous sunny day by getting outside and having fun in your garden. We never know when the rain is coming so let’s enjoy this glorious autumn weather while it lasts.

If you have received a learning pack from the Ministry of Education (and you haven’t contacted me) could you please email and let me know.

Guten Tag  (German – good day)

Welcome to Wednesday.

With the announcement to move to lockdown level 3 next week I think we are getting closer to being back at school together! During the 2 weeks we are at level 3, I will be hoping that the number of cases keeps dropping and hopefully we can get back to some sort of normality! In the meantime we are all still working in our bubble school at home J.

I hope you had fun with your learning activities yesterday and as promised, today we will focus on being grateful for the soldiers who help us and we will remember all soldiers for ANZAC Day (which is Saturday 25th April).

There are 3 ANZAC activities today which I hope will be fun. I look forward to seeing the biscuits and wreaths that you make and you could ask bigger brothers or sisters to help. I’m sure you will do an awesome job making both.

Thanks for the photos that you have sent in. Keep checking the school website so you can see what others have been up to. If you haven’t been in contact with me yet, I would love to hear from you.

If you have received a learning pack from the Ministry of Education could you please email me and let me know.

Keep those emails coming.

Enjoy your day and enjoy this lovely sunny day!

Hope to hear from you.

Tuesday 21 April 2020

Kamusta everybody

Welcome to Tuesday.

I hope you had fun yesterday searching for rainbow coloured objects in your house and garden. I got some great photos back from you showing a variety of things. You certainly looked in some interesting places!

I hear that some of you are joining in with your brother or sisters learning tasks which is awesome. You might like to have a go at some of their learning websites also.

Today we focus on Kindness again and today’s creative activity is making a card for somebody. This gives us an opportunity to think about how grateful we are to have certain people in our lives who love us, look after us and help us.

Tomorrow we will extend this gratefulness to the soldiers who have helped us to stay safe and free in our lives.

On Saturday we celebrate ANZAC Day. This is a very special day in New Zealand’s history as we show gratefulness to the soldiers who have fought in wars to keep us safe. The soldiers we specifically pay thanks to are the veterans of World War One who lost their lives in order to keep people safe.

Look out tomorrow for some very cool ANZAC activities that you might like to do as a family, including a recipe for ANZAC biscuits which you might like to bake.

Enjoy your day and stay safe in your bubble for a wee bit longer.

Kia Ora te Whanau

I hope you had an awesome weekend in your bubble and that you got out and enjoyed the sunny weather. It was also great to get some rain for the parched gardens and paddocks!

Welcome to the second week of home learning. Today there are a variety of activities that are graded in difficulty. You can choose to do as much or as little as you like. The older children should be able to manage everything within each activity. Challenge them to have a go at them all. An added extension for the word rhyming activity is to add 2 sounds (a blend eg bl) or a diagraph eg sh, ch, th, wh at the start of the letter ending. That will get them thinking.

I loved seeing your photos of all the work that you have been doing and if you go to the photo page on the school website, you will see some of ours and lots from other classes.

I was amazed to see the creativity and skill involved in making the sock puppets. There were also some awesome names! Now you have a friend to read to each day and you can take them around your garden to play with.

Have a great day. Hopefully we will get some news today about the lockdown situation for the next few weeks which will enable us to plan for future learning.

Tena Koe Room 1

Welcome to the last day of the first week of “school in your bubble”. I hope you have enjoyed the activities I am sending and I also hope you are having a go at some of the online learning sites and apps. I can see by the photos and emails that you are sending me, that you are doing lots of different types of learning with your family as well. I’m sure you are having a lot of fun along the way and I can’t wait to hear all about your amazing times.

Today there are a variety of activities to do and please remember that you can pick and choose what you want to do and when you want to do it. If you didn’t check out the junior maths and science programme on TVNZ2+1 yesterday, then be sure and tune in today as it is fun.

Remember to help at home with some jobs over the weekend and get outside for plenty of exercise and playing while we are having these lovely sunny days.

I’ll be out working with the ponies and teaching the baby ones to enjoy a pat and a scratch.

I’ll be back in touch on Monday morning with some more fun things to try at home with your family.

Have a fabulous weekend

Keep Safe!

Kia ora Room 1!

Welcome to our second day of learning together at home. Today I thought we could start our day with the kindness game. To refresh your memory I have explained it at the top of the activity sheet. We have played it many times at school and I’m sure you will be great at it. I look forward to hearing if everybody in your family guessed the right kindness buddy!

Thank you for all your lovely photos. Your autumn art looks awesome and the stories I read about the holidays are fabulous too. I can see you are working really hard at home and you should all be proud of your efforts.

Mr R has changed our web site again so that now all classes will share a photo gallery page. This means that we will only be able to put up some of our photos. Not to worry though as I’ve saved all your photos and we can share them once we are all back at school together.

Today I watched some of the learning TV channel. I thought the junior maths and science programme that screened at 10.55 was great. I can’t find it on the TV guide for today or Friday but get mum and dad to keep an eye out and you might like to tune in when it is next on. Also the kids exercise programme looks a lot of fun and you might like to have a go when that is on in the afternoon.

On your activities page today there are some activities that ask you to use a computer so I have put some website addresses here so you can sign up to reading eggs and listen to Giraffes Can’t Dance on You tube. Have a fabulous second day at school in your bubble.

Wednesday 15 April 2020

Hi Everybody! Happy Easter! I hope you got some yummy eggs from the Easter Bunny.

I hope everyone is happy and safe and that you and your family had a lovely holiday in your “bubble”. I hope you are being the kind and helpful children I know that you are. Remember, “we’ve got this” and hopefully soon we can all be back at school together in Room 1! During the holidays I have been working with my ponies, pruning the garden, checking and fixing the fences and spraying some weeds in the paddocks. The pony in the Easter picture Mr R put together was Gem. She is super friendly and wanted to say hello to everybody. Tigger my cat has been very helpful watching me as I do jobs around the place.

This is not how I imagined we would be starting term 2 and like you, I’m not sure how long the lockdown and will be lasting so I will do my best to stay in touch and provide some fun activities for you. If you picked up your child’s work pack from school before lock down you will have lots of activities to keep some learning going over the next 2 weeks but please keep it to just a couple of sheets a day to reduce stress levels. To extend, enhance or replace the sheets, you can choose some of the ideas that will be on a daily plan sheet that I will email to you each morning. I will also send you an email letter (more directed to your child) each morning. All the emails and daily activity sheets will be on our Room 1 page on the school website.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL THE ACTIVITIES I SEND OUT ARE JUST SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS SO PLEASE DON’T FEEL PRESSURED TO DO EVERYTHING OR ANYTHING.

Contact

I think it is really important that we stay in touch so that your child has some news and information about their classmates so I encourage you and your child to email me and let me know what you have been up to, or just to chat about anything, you can email me on my school email address tracey@dunsandel.school.nz or you can now just push reply to the group emails I send and they should come back to my mail box. Dave has added a gallery page to our class web page so we can post photos of the children and what they have been up to. Just email me your pics and I’ll organise them to go on the page. That will be an awesome way for your child to get a visual of their mates.

Daily activity sheet

The daily activity page will have fun suggestions, activities and challenges for your child. Some of these activities will be family things that may already be part of your daily routine and other activities could be done with a sibling or independently. The format of the sheet will follow the same daily routine similar to the order of activities in the classroom. Each day there will be a choice within the time slot but as I said this is not a requirement just a suggestion and a way of keeping routine and structure for you as the lockdown continues.

I am very aware of the levels of anxiety and uncertainty in households and family peace is most important. It might be that older siblings can help with some of the activities or you choose to do none of them. What ever you choose to do will be the best choice for you and your kids.

Have an awesome day in your bubble.

I look forward to hearing from you and maybe getting some photos of the coo things that you are doing at home.

Friday 27 March 2020

Hi everyone.

I hope you are all enjoying your time at home with your family. Remember to be kind to everyone and be as helpful as I know you can be. The school holidays start today so you can have a little rest from working on the sheets that I sent home. Once the holidays are over I will be in touch with some learning activities for you and I will get Mr R to add some new websites to our class page on the school website. I will find it a bit tricky to send you some types of work as I can only use my phone online and that limits what I can do a lititle bit. If you want to write me an email letter to let me know what you have been doing get mum or dad to help you and send the email to my address tracey@dunsandel.school.nz don’t press reply on this email as it goes to Mrs Pluck’s email. Have a wonderful time playing outside in your garden and see if you can spot some signs of autumn. I’m sure Easter Bunny will bring you Easter eggs for being the kind and helpful children I know you are. Take care and enjoy staying home

Tuesday 24 March 2020

Kia ora everyone,

I hope you are safe and well and tucked up at home – to our farmers and essential workers out there, who are carrying on through the next lockdown period – our thoughts and gratitude go to you!

For the children in Room 1, I have put together an envelope with some learning (and some wee treats) for the children over the next few weeks.  I have taken into account the two week holiday period – but there is enough I am certain, for the children to keep their skills ticking over.

These envelopes are ready to be collected from the school office from 12pm until 3pm today, from 9-12pm tomorrow and then outside of that time Wednesday – they will be in the school letterbox for collection.

Unfortunately, we are unable to send hard copies of books to come home – due to the volume that would be required and the cross contamination risk.  (I have washed my hands thoroughly AND used sanitiser before putting together these packs!).  For reading, I would encourage you to download the free AP called ‘Rivet’ – this has so many books that the children can practise their home reading with.  Please also see the websites and Apps list attached in the Room 1 section of the main school Work from Home site.

Please just do what you can, all of the work, some of the work or none of the work will be up to you as a family.  Your child will need support with some of the work – particularly the maths.

In the mean time – stay safe everyone!  To the children – I miss you already!  But these weeks will fly by and I will see you all really soon!
