Room Three – Miss Brown

Friday 15 May 2020

Kia Ora Everyone,

It is finally FriYAY and the final day of learning from home. We hope the adjustment to level 2 is going well for you all so far. Today we are just going to outline what you need to bring with you to school on Monday along with important things to remember.

Back to school checklist:

  •  A named and full water bottle.
  • Your school jersey/fleece- The mornings are very chilly at the moment and children will be outside for morning tea and lunch if it is not raining.
  • Lunch box
  • Something you would like to share that you completed/did over lockdown- We will be having sharing time on Monday the 18th.
  • Any stationary/books that you took home prior to the lockdown.
  • Your homework and library folder.
  • A positive/can do attitude
  • A SMILE- we are so excited!

Things to remember for the first day:

  • Buses are running as normal. No one to sit in the seats directly behind the driver.
  • If you are dropping your child off, drop them at the green gate. Dave (Mr. R) will be there to meet you.
  • If you NEED to come on school grounds you will need to do so via the office. On arrival you will need to sign in and as you leave you will need to sign out. This is for contact tracing purposes should they be needed.
  • The drinking fountains will be closed.

After school:

  • Check your child’s homework folder for the Newsletter/s
  • Chat with your child about their day.

Finally from us both – it has been such an unusual journey we have all had and we think you have all done a fabulous job.  Thank you all for the input you have had along the way, we have enjoyed seeing all the fun things you have been up to in your bubbles.

We are both really excited about continuing the term at school and look forward to welcoming your child/ren on Monday morning.  Until then, take care, prepare and see you there!  Miss Brown and Mrs Webb!!

Thursday 14 May 2020

Good Morning Everyone,

We hope the information about level two so far has been easy enough to understand. Please refer to the link Dave mentioned in his email for more information and updates.  It is on the school website under Alert Level 2 at Dunsandel School.

We are so looking forward to being back for the remainder of term 2 and reuniting as a class and school!  Bring on Monday 18th!!

Thank-you everyone who continues to share photos with us on class dojo and via email. We only have two more days learning in our home bubbles- so have some fun. We are now officially at alert level 2, so you may wish to spend the next two days catching up with friends and family… or maybe even visiting Orana Park or Willow Bank! We would love to see what you get up to now that we have the freedom to move around and interact with others.  Some of you may be returning to your work places, so we wish you all well adjusting to the new normal.

Challenge of the day:

OR

Thanks for all your hard work over the last 5 weeks!

Enjoy your day and we will talk tomorrow!

Miss Brown and Mrs Webb.

Wednesday 13 May 2020

Good Morning to you all.

By now I hope you have all understood what returning to school under Alert Level 2 means for both you and your child.  We will be returning to a new normal but we will make this as smooth as possible for the children.  Those who have already returned under Alert Level 3 will already be aware of some of these changes.  We are so excited to be fully opening again!

It is important that as a community we are vigilant in keeping up the guidelines set out and continue to practise strict good hygiene health and safety measures at school AND home.  Safe and sensible practices for hygiene and contact tracing will be the norm and all students will be able to return, AS LONG AS THEY REMAIN WELL. If your child displays ANY symptoms of being unwell they MUST stay home.(If those symptoms are any of the COVID related ones-fever, sore throat, coughing etc- then it is expected they get tested before returning to school).

To minimise the need to record others onsite -we ask that you drop your child off at the green gate and collect them from there at the end of day – (otherwise you will need to follow the requirements and protocol which include sanitising your hands before entering the office area, where you will need to sign in with your name and details, time, place/s visited onsite and then ensure you remain 2m from others at all times and then sign out with the time etc as you leave for our contact tracing purposes) – Dave will be at the green gate to welcome the children to reduce the need of you coming on school grounds.  For this reason we would also strongly encourage you to try and email any requests through if you can to:  felicity@dunsandel.school.nz – instead of entering the office/school. If you have questions about any of this please let us know.

Enjoy these last few days of learning at home! It’s been a new experience for us all- we hope you have managed to have some fun with it. We encourage you all to have some down time this week amongst the learning, in preparation for returning to school next week.

Challenge of the day:

Enjoy your day,

Miss Brown and Mrs Webb

Tuesday 12 May

Kia Ora Everyone, I hope you enjoyed looking over the slides for this week with the variety of activities – we have enjoyed seeing what you have started on so far – WELL DONE keep it coming!

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday about dropping to Alert Level 2, you will be aware that we are reopening ready to welcome your child/ren on MONDAY 18th MAY.  SO, get your uniforms ready and find those lunch boxes, drink bottles and bags ready to go!!

As you will be aware we have a week to prepare things and get ready to welcome your child/ren safely back to school.  There will be extra hygiene measures in place to ensure we meet the requirements from the Ministry of Health.  We will keep you up to date as we have more to report on.  Until then, enjoy your time together, enjoy your variety of tasks to do and make this your best week ever! Make sure you refer to Dave’s email last night for a more detailed overview of what we will be doing as a school at alert level 2. If you have any questions or concerns please let us know via email.

Challenge of the day:

Enjoy your day,

Miss Brown and Mrs Webb

Monday 11 May 2020

Kia Ora Everyone,

Welcome to week 5 of term 2! We hope you all had a nice and relaxing weekend with your bubbles.

Attached to this email are the learning slides for the week. Just a reminder that these slides are for the entire week and they are designed for you to pick and choose from.  We hope you are enjoying the variety included each week so you can keep things interesting with the learning.  This week there is plenty to pick from to add interest for both indoor and outdoor!  Let’s make the most of the fine weather while it lasts!!

Some of you are also enjoying working through the MOE pack and the homework book included -which is great so just remember to do what works best for you and your child.

Following the announcement at 4pm today we will have a better idea about what the rest of the term will look like.  We will keep you updated as to our next steps as a school as soon as we know so keep reading your emails to keep up to date.  Hang in there everybody you have done such a great job so far.  Look forward to seeing what you get up to on Class Dojo – keep the photos coming, they are awesome!

Challenge of the day:

Enjoy your day,

Miss Brown and Mrs. Webb

Friday 8 May 2020

Kia Ora Everyone,

HAPPY FRIDAY!

We hope you have enjoyed your learning this week. Like we mentioned yesterday, it has been super cool for us to see some of the things you have been up to – WELL DONE.

Following the government press conference yesterday in regards to WHAT level 2 will look like- we will all be able to get back to school when it is safe to do so. Obviously we still have no idea what is going to happen come Monday at 4pm, but it is something to look forward to when we are ready! However, regardless of what happens on Monday it sounds like it will be another week of home learning in our bubbles next week. This is because schools will not be opening mid week. In light of this we will have plenty of fun things planned to keep you busy throughout the week. 🙂

Here is a fun link you might like to sign up for for free access or explore in your own time. Quite a creative one Mind lab Kids.

We wanted to say a massive Happy Mothers Day to all of our special Mums out there (including Mrs. Webb!) We hope you have a special weekend… maybe even breakfast in bed on Sunday!

Challenge of the day:

Put all of the school books away tonight, your feet up and enjoy the weekend! We will be in touch on Monday with the weeks learning slides and any new information we have about the alert levels.

Thanks everyone for all your hard work. We appreciate you.

Talk soon,Miss Brown and Mrs. Webb

Thursday 7 May 2020

Kia Ora Everyone,

Welcome to another day of our home learning journey.  We hope you are all enjoying the variety of activities we provided on Monday!  Today is “Thoughtful Thursday” – let’s see if you can think of something thoughtful to do for someone else without being asked…what letter in PRIDE is this one? Maybe send us a photo!

Here is our thoughtful gift to you all…

We are still enjoying receiving all the work posted on Class Dojo throughout the day. It is a highlight for us being able to interact with the children in some way. We also understand that some are having trouble posting… if this is the case and you have something you would like to share please feel free to send it to us via email. We are available throughout the day to read and respond to both class dojo and emails. We can also then pass these on to Dave to post on the school website. If you haven’t been onto the school website in a while popover and check out the Pride at home tab under learning at home. Here you will find a compilation of photos of students at work from a variety of classes!

Today you might like to try this clip with a fun, easy craft at the end.  Some of you will remember doing this craft with Mrs Webb in the school pool!  It looked beautiful…have a go!

https://mysteryscience.com/mini-lessons/spring-flowers?code=175881de52c9130ee98b9492e415eaf0

Challenge of the day:

If you are looking for a quick personal challenge you could also try this…some of your handwriting has very good form, shape, size, spacing and you are ready for the next challenge…flicking! Write all the letters of the alphabet as neat as you can and get an adult to check to see if they are ready to try flicking! Remember flicking is just the same neatness with the tiny flick at the end getting ready for the next step of linking!  Then you might like to try Typing Club

Take care and we look forward to some COOL sharing (community of online learning). Talk soon Mrs Webb and Miss Brown.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Wednesday 6 May 2020

Happy Wednesday!  We hope you survived the cold snap yesterday and kept warm!

If you are looking for something different to do we have included two links to virtual tours of the zoos/aquariums. These can be fascinating for children to explore. You could use kiddle after completing a tour for the children to research their favourite animal/fish – maybe draw and list a few interesting finds/facts!

 The links are as follows:

https://kids.sandiegozoo.org/videos (This link will take you to a series of videos you can pick and choose from)

https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/animals/live-cams/coral-reef-cam (Live webcams within the aquarium for all your fish interests)- Miss Brown has been to this aquarium in person and it is brilliant!!

We have attached a calendar for May with some ideas from Epic reading. If you are loving EPIC reading give it a go!

Challenge of the day: Let’s put our scientist hats on today

That’s it from us today. As always please reach out if you have any questions. Don’t feel guilty if  you have a break today -by now you will be needing it and that is totally fine – you are all doing a wonderful job during this time so look after yourselves.

Take care and we look forward to some COOL sharing (community of online learning). Talk soon Mrs Webb and Miss Brown.

Tuesday 5 May 2020

Good Morning Everyone,

We hope you all had a wonderful Monday. Being a little cooler today it might be a good chance to snuggle up in a blanket and read books and watch the learning TV channel for part of the day.

We hope you are enjoying the activities from the slides so far. We have tried our best to explain them in that document, however if you have any additional questions about the tasks then please let us know.

Challenge of the day:

It is getting to a time in this journey where both children and parents may be finding it harder than ever to find a groove with home learning. This is totally OK and it is important to look after your wellbeing first and foremost. Today we are including a link to a mindfulness activity for the whole family to enjoy. We enjoy these types of activities in class towards the end of term as they can really help promote a positive mindset. We will also add another mindset video to class dojo for you to explore. Has anyone been watching these videos? If so let us know what you think so far!

https://app.smilingmind.com.au/sample/meditation/

The above link will take you to a sample mindfulness session on an app called smiling mind. If you enjoy this sample you could sign up for free and have unlimited access. The children in room 3 have used Smiling Mind before and seem to enjoy it, so it is worth giving it a go! 🙂

Talk soon,

Miss Brown and Mrs Webb

Monday 4 May 2020

Kia Ora Everyone, you are all doing a great job so keep it up.

This is week 4 day 1 – I hope you all enjoyed the weekend off ready for a full week ahead and possibly the last week of distant learning as the announcement will be made next Monday 11th May about the Alert levels and if we get to continue to move down!!

The information we are sending home today is for the week.  The idea being it gives you time to look at the ideas and pick and choose from it however works for you.  I know the first day may seem a bit overwhelming but you have got the hang of this now!  You may even still pick activities from previous week’s choice boards etc if there was something there you still wanted to do!  Keep it interesting and fun.

A reminder these are ideas and suggestions.  Some of you may just work through your MOE packs and that is totally fine.  Enjoy your time together – share with us.

A reminder about the learningT.V channel. This can be a nice way to have a break! Maybe you feel like you need a break from ‘teaching’ for the day. The TV series is extremely educational and could take your place! Make sure you as caregivers are looking after yourselves as well. 🙂

That’s it from us today – enjoy study ladder, times tables.co.nz, epic and our slide full of ideas!

Challenge of the day:

  • I would be interested to see how far everyone can jump. Maybe use a measuring tape to measure it afterwards!!

Take care and we look forward to some COOL sharing (community of online learning). Talk soon Mrs Webb and Miss Brown.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Friday 1 May 2020

Kia Ora Everyone,

Happy Friday!! We hope you have all enjoyed your week so far. Just one more day and then the weekend. We have been super lucky again with the weather this week so fingers crossed the beautiful sunshine sticks around over the weekend.

Thank-you everyone who has let us know about the learning packs arriving in the mail. They should give a variety of other things you could be doing during this time at home. You might do the entire packet by the time we get back to school or you might not do any. It is totally up to you how you choose to use it!

Challenge of the Day

*** Time to get creative again. I wonder what materials would be the most absorbent for this. Some ideas to help:

  • Paper towels
  • Toilet paper
  • Cloth
  • An old t-shirt
  • News paper

To make a mop you may also need a long stick from the garden to use as the handle.

Well this week seems to have gone by quickly – keep up all the great learning experience and we will see you all next week where we will provide a weekly overview of tasks and activities to work on throughout the week.  Well done everyone 😎

Any questions, queries or wonders just ask away.

Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Brown and Mrs Webb.

Thursday 30 April 2020

Good Morning Everyone – the last day of April!  Hope everyone managed to work their way through the new slide of learning suggestions.  If you haven’t tried Pobble 365 we really recommend it! It has a great bank of pictures and ideas to help stimulate and inspire writing with some super prompts as well, a nice way to add variety.

It is great to see many of you now have your learning packs – if not hold in there yours will be on its way so it will be a nice surprise to wait for!

This week you will find other clips of the growth mindset added to our class dojo -these are a helpful talking point to discuss with your child and offer some good insight.  If you haven’t managed to see any they can still be accessed in the class story and they are quite short – just start at clip 1.

WELL DONE on the great photos of learning experiences coming through and seeing what you are all up to – it is fun to see others and reconnect with our buddies – even seeing siblings joining in is really cool.

Can’t wait to see your LOCKDOWN ABC stories and how neatly you have published them…we’re sure these might take you until next week to get finished up – hope you remember to use WOW (wonderfully outstanding winner) words.  These will be a great piece to keep to look back on later!

Life in level 3:

Miss Brown is at school with the other teaching staff teaching the online programme to 7 kids from our community whose parents have to work during alert level 3. After spending the day back in the classroom I cannot wait till everyone is back when it is safe to do so. While most of our community remains at home learning in their bubbles it is important to know we are all in this together, all following the online learning slides and other ideas from the Ministry Of Education packets. Keep making the most of the special time you are spending together and have some fun with the ‘school’ things you are doing!  Mrs Webb currently remains at home during this time teaching her own 3 kids alongside our class learning in her bubble.  What a different time for us all!

Challenge of the Day: A Brain Teaser! Upload a picture of the answer to Dojo or send an email to your teacher! We will let you know if you have got it right 🙂

That’s all from us today. As always feel free to email if you have any questions about anything and remember to check the school website too for other ideas and updates etc.

Thanks from Miss Brown and Mrs Webb.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Wednesday 29 April 2020

Good Morning Everyone. Welcome back to Week 3 of Distant Learning – hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and observed ANZAC Day in your own unique way.

This is just a short week from Wednesday – Friday taking us into the new Month of May!  WOW where does the time go!  Some of you will be at Bubble School but the work remains the same for all as we enter Alert Level 3.

Hopefully some of you will have your MOE Learning Pack and will be able to read the given reading books and begin the homework book.  This is a good indicator of what your child should be aiming for independently.  There are a variety of tasks in there for you to choose from.

Continue also with your Study ladder and Epic and make sure you are still remembering about times tables.co.nz to help learn your 2x (doubles), 10x (groups of tens in numbers), 5x then 3x and 4x tables.  Remember you can show this as repeated addition, skip counting and arrays to help show what it means.  For example 5×3 means 5 groups of 3 which can be shown as 3+3+3+3+3 or 3,6,9,12,15 or (###) (###) (###) (###) (###).  Maybe you could look for different arrays around your house such as an egg carton can show 2×6 or 6×2 etc.

Explanations of writing ideas from slides:

Write an acrostic poem on a piece of paper using the letters of LOCKDOWN to show some of the things you have been doing over that time.  For example – Long strolls in the beautiful still evening with all of my family.  Oven hot with freshly baked chocolate chip cookies ready to gobble up while still warm – use some WOW words and make it as interesting for the reader as you can.  For example Long time, Over it, would not be descriptive or interesting for the reader!!  Surprise us!  Publish it using a border and present it neatly using your best handwriting.  Illustrate with pictures and colour – keep it safe to show at school when we are back!  Try to be original.

Learn to use speech marks – draw people or animals having a conversation and get someone to show you how to use speech marks correctly.  For example  “Hello” said Frog.   “Hello Frog” replied Duck.  Frog looked at Duck and said “Would you like to go for a walk?”  Please help your child with 66 to start and 99 to finish and what parts are the talking parts.  Find speech in books too!

Have fun with this week of learning suggestions.  Enjoy the craft ideas or show us what you have done yourself.

Remember to let us know as your MOE learning packs arrive – take a photo of them with it and send it in to class dojo.

A reminder the TV series are still running during Alert level 3.

Thank you to all the wonderful work you are doing and sharing with us.

Take care and we look forward to some COOL sharing (community of online learning) – Miss Brown and Mrs Webb

Friday 24 April 2020

Good Morning Everyone,

Happy Friday! Last day of home learning before we move into a long weekend. Monday the 27th of April is a public holiday due to ANZAC day and then on Tuesday the 28th of April Dunsandel school will be having a teachers only day. The purpose of this is to get everything sorted for what our new normal will look like in Alert level 3. This means that you will have a 4 day weekend before new work will be sent out for next week!

Thank-you all for your responses to the survey sent out by Dave this week. Your quick responses mean we have been able to plan and organize onsite schooling for those who require it.  Some of you will be starting to get your learning packs which is VERY exciting – maybe you could send us a photo of you with your goodies for our class dojo story!

Remember if you have not seen your child in the Class Dojo story it is likely because we have not heard a response from you as to if this is ok. Please reply YES to your teacher if you wish to see your child featured. Thank-you to those who have replied, I bet the children were excited to see their pictures displayed. We are loving how people are doing such a great variety of things and being very creative and helpful at home – keep it up guys!

ANZAC DAY 25th April 2020

Due to lockdown New Zealand is unable to go to memorial services that would typically happen on ANZAC day. Instead many will be standing at their mail boxes or televisions at 6am (dawn) to remember our ANZACs. If you want to join this movement, wear or display a poppy you have created and tune into the NZ National radio station or TV 1 for a live broadcast of a service. Or just stand for a few minutes and remember the ANZACs! (You could do this at any time of the day) We will be doing this with our own bubbles as it is an important part of New Zealand history. We might even sing the national anthem in the memory of the soldiers.  Maybe take a family ANZAC photo for your portfolio on class dojo to add to your learning story to look back on?

For a basic child friendly history of ANZAC day to help children understand go to the following link: https://www.kiwikidsnews.co.nz/anzac-day/

Challenge of the Day:

Enjoy your day and weekend and we will be in touch between 8:30am-9:00am on Wednesday morning!  Maybe your packs will arrive over that time!

Thanks,

Miss Brown and Mrs. Webb

Thursday 23 April 2020

Kia Ora Everyone,

Welcome to another day of our home learning journey.  We hope you are all enjoying the variety of activities we provided on Monday!  Today is “Thoughtful Thursday” – let’s see if you can think of something thoughtful to do for someone else without being asked…what letter in PRIDE is this one?

We are still enjoying receiving all the work posted on Class Dojo throughout the day. We hope it offers an element of motivation for children seeing their work posted on their profiles and the class story. The cool thing about the student profiles is that after we are all back to normal, you as parents will have a record of everything that you have achieved together during this period at home! You can look back and reflect on the hard work you have put in and the awesome experiences your child has had. If you would like to be posting but are still not sure how, please reach out to us so we can help you the best we can.  We are all learning about this new programme together.

Please remember to email and let us know if you have received your learning pack in the mail from the ministry of education. This is a super exciting resource and we would love to know who has been lucky enough to receive one so far!

It is great to see people using studyladder, epic and timestables.co.nz to continue their learning.  For other writing suggestions and prompts remember pobble365 is a very good go to.  Refer to the school page also with a variety of activities to do at any stage.  Some of you are even starting up your own learning projects and finding out about things of interest which are such great inquiry skills and I am sure you are finding some very interesting facts out!  We have added a short clip following the growth mindset we loaded on the class story..these have a good quick message to talk to your child about.

Challenge of the day :

*** Remember these are just suggestions of things you COULD do if you choose. We figure the more ideas the better and we all know kids love getting creative 🙂

***Any toy would work, it doesn’t need to be a toy goat!!

Enjoy your day today.

Miss Brown and Mrs Webb.

Wednesday 22 April 2020

Good Morning everyone,

Happy Wednesday! Almost halfway through the week already.  Some exciting news is that some families received their learning packs from the MOE yesterday.  If you received yours can you please reply to this email and let us know or notify us of when you do so.  Thank you this is exciting!

Thank you for giving Dave your response to the quick survey regarding if your child/ren needs to return to school or not.  If you have not done so please remember to do so promptly to help with the planning going forward.

Remember the key message for you is that if you can, you should keep your child at home. If your child has a health condition that means they are at a greater risk of a severe illness you must keep them at home. If your child is sick please also ensure you keep them at home.

Maybe today you can think of something wise someone has told you or passed onto you – maybe some advice or a saying that helps with something.  We could create a Wednesday Wisdom Window on our class story with peoples ideas.  Maybe you could video them to us.  Maybe you could interview someone wise and get them to tell us what they know!  Have fun with it…maybe some strange voices or puppets/teddies could report back!

Below are a couple of challenges you might like to do! They will take a lot of clever thinking and problem solving

***Instead of a Penny use any coins you have in the house. Also if you do not have a tank you could use a bathtub or paddling pool. Materials that might work are sticks, string and plastic/paper bags.

***For the purposes of this tower challenge it will be dependent on what you have around the house. Maybe you use toilet paper rolls, Lego, blocks or rocks outside. Use your creative thinking to solve and create this one.

Enjoy the day and remember we are only an email away if you need any help or guidance.

Thanks,

Miss Brown and Mrs Webb.

Tuesday 21 April 2020

Kia Ora Everyone,

We hope you had a nice day yesterday. It was so lovely to see the sun out and shining, I think we are in for a good week of weather!

As many of you will know by now there is an up and coming shift to Alert Level 3.  This means as you would’ve read in Dave’s email that the Government is encouraging parents and caregivers to keep their children home and learning by distance if possible.  Please remember to reply to his email that will come out today in regards to this.

Day 1 of week two was very successful from our perspective. We saw students writing, reading and completing some maths problems throughout the day. How are you finding new activities and ideas so far?

A few pointers and suggestions:

One suggestion for children who are doing some handwriting practice today is to take your time, sit your letters on the line and make sure you are forming them correctly.  This is a great time to get one on one help with any reversals or tricky letters, check pencil grip and see if they are starting the right way.

Another suggestion we can offer is that maybe you could pick a few words that are nearly right each day from their writing to practise too. This way they are suited to what they need right now. Practise them by writing them out a few times while saying them.  Try block letters, rainbow pens, make it interesting.  Show us some words you have practised if you want!

While we have not included fitness and games on our slide for the week it is important to move your body everyday. Some ways you can do this is by simply going out and kicking a ball around, doing a go noodle dance or maybe even some yoga stretching. We will include some links below that will take you to some quick easy websites/videos to follow in order to move your body each and every day.

Go noodle: https://family.gonoodle.com/ or alternatively search gonoodle on youtube where you can find a selection of videos.

A group of videos showing how to practise yoga as a child. I have tried these before and they are super relaxing. https://awakeandmindful.com/best-kids-yoga-videos-on-youtube/

25 minute cardio exercise to get the heart pumping quickly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhCM0C6GnrY

That’s it from us today. Keep up the hard work and we will be in touch tomorrow morning.

Kia Kaha,

Miss Brown and Mrs Webb.

Monday 20 April 2020

Kia Ora Everyone, you are all doing a great job so keep it up.

This is week 2 day 1 – I hope you all enjoyed the weekend off!

The information we are sending home today is for the week.  The idea being it gives you time to look at the ideas and pick and choose from it however works for you.  I know the first day may seem a bit overwhelming with what is there but take it at your own pace.  You may even still pick activities from last week’s choice board etc if there was something there you still wanted to do!

A reminder these are ideas and suggestions to do with your child.  We welcome other ideas and work you are doing as it will all help with skills and confidence with learning.

Our timetable and activities on offer are for you to select from, not to feel pressured by.  Hopefully most tasks should be pretty much student led without too much parental input needed, however some tasks can be ideal opportunities to create some great family memories together! Even some new life long skills…have FUN!!  Variety is great, maybe create your own dance or music, act out a story, write your own picture book or comic, create a family play!

Some days you may get many things done and others you may not.  Remember we are all learning to navigate and participate in this together and we are just an email away if need be.

Take care and we look forward to some COOL sharing (community of online learning) –acronym!

Talk soon Mrs Webb and Miss Brown.

Friday 17 April 2020

Kia Ora Everyone,

We hope you all enjoyed your second day of term 2!  It seems like most of you are having success with class dojo and we hope you are enjoying seeing others and some of the things they are up to.  I know we are loving seeing all the creative and artistic things you are coming up with.

If you are still having any concerns or problems with this just let us know and we will try and help best we can.  If you haven’t seen your child on the class story page it may be because we haven’t yet received  your permission to share.  Please email us either way with a yes or no.  Also remember you can send photos to Mr R for sharing with the whole school if you want to.

Maybe you could try using some of the other features in your profile like the record button and record yourself reading a story or telling a joke!  If you can, maybe you could get a picture of you doing something to help out at home or doing something with someone like a sibling or parent…maybe it is playing a game together, cooking a meal, cleaning up together!

Some of you have been reading in some crazy places…maybe you could read in a crazy dress up or wig or hat!!

Our challenge to you is to try and do 5 kind things to help your bubble!

Great start families! We know home learning is challenging and you are all being so receptive to our suggestions so thank-you for showing the P in PRIDE and participating!  Children tell us what other letters you have been using at home…add it to your profile with the examples!

We will be in touch again on Monday with our suggestions for next week 🙂

Enjoy the day and the weekend ahead!  Kia Kaha all.

Kia Ora Everyone,

We hope you all enjoyed your first day of term 2! What a crazy journey this is for all of us – remember to do what you can and don’t worry if you can’t.

Thank-you to everyone who logged into Class Dojo and posted a selfie. It was a tricky first task but it was so good to see everyone at home in their bubble.

A quick wee note to point out about Dojo is that your children’s posts are private so only the teachers and the parents of that child can see them initially. To make it more simple and without having to ask permission each time you send something, I would like to ask if anyone would have any objections about us sharing posts on the “Class Story” for everyone to see. I just thought the children might like to see what one another are up to as I know they are missing their friends. Please reply “yes” to this email if you are happy for us to do this (in other words this is a blanket consent to share any picture/video on the class page)  if not can you please add a message to each photo stating what can or can’t go on the class page.  Thank you.

The next point about Class Dojo is that there are two accounts you will now have access to:

-The first is a parent page where you can see the class story and what your child is posting.

-The second is your child’s profile which is where they can post work and pictures for teachers and parents to see.

If anyone is having trouble connecting to Class Dojo please send us an email and we will get back to you.

It is important to recognize the difference between the two. Once you have signed up as a parent the classroom teacher will send you instructions on how to sign in as a student. This student page is the one for the children to share on. Thank-you for your patience with us getting this sorted!

Another useful link is the following to our school website. (http://dunsandel.school.nz/learning-at-home) Here you can find great things Mr. R is adding and also all the information we are emailing out each day.  You can also send photos here to be uploaded for the wider school to see too!

Lastly, we have attached some editing pointers to help with re-visiting writing to this email. I know it is always helpful having a checklist to work with. The Tv schedule is also attached to today’s email 🙂 Did anyone watch this?  Was it good to use?

Keep up the great work Room 3 and 4. We are so happy you are all having fun with learning.  We hope you enjoyed using Dojo to connect again.

Miss Brown and Mrs. Webb

Kia ora Parents/Caregivers

Welcome to the new term and our unique way to be starting it!  We hope you have all been surviving in your bubble and taking care of each other.  Please remember this is all new and different for each of us and this email marks the beginning of a new learning journey ahead.

First and utmost we want you to be comfortable with what you are doing and want to make sure you do what works best for your kids and family – we do not want to create any extra pressure or stress on anyone.  Our timetable and activities on offer are for you to select from, not to feel pressured by.  Hopefully most tasks should be pretty much student led without too much parental input needed, however some tasks can be ideal opportunities to create some great family memories together! Even some new life long skills…have FUN with your home learning!

Remember playing board games, helping do chores and building things together are all great life skills and learning areas which build on skills such as turn taking, empathy and even gratitude so this is also great education.  Some days you may get many things done and others you may not.  Remember we are all learning to navigate and participate in this together and we are just an email away if need be.  You may even find other cool stuff to do/share!

Please refer to the school page as this will be updated as we go with new links and ideas to try.  As you may know there will be an educational based TV series shared on Freeview TVNZ2+1 and Sky502 and some on TVNZ on Demand between 9am -3pm if you are interested.

Finally we look forward to sharing with you, following this email, a programme we are going to try called Class Dojo.  Please try it out today so we know who can access it.  It is a sharing area where you can upload photos/videos etc of some of the cool things you have been up to both inside or out!  This is all new learning for us too so we hope it will be fun!!  Take care and we look forward to some COOL sharing (community of online learning) –acronym!

Talk soon Mrs Webb and Miss Brown.

Kia ora Parents/Caregivers

We hope you and your family are safe and secure as we lead into the school holiday time. This is just a quick hello and check in to make sure you are all aware of our next steps over the coming weeks. I can see you have been enjoying the online activities provided and may have even discovered some new great learning sites, maybe you could share with us!

As you will be aware this is the last official day of Term 1 as we enter the new school holiday time Monday 30th March – Tuesday 14th April. Over the next two weeks we will be on holiday. We are learning to approach the ‘new normal’ for the next month so this is an ideal opportunity for us as parents and caregivers to reassure, role model and most importantly show kindness and a sense of security. Term 2 starts Wednesday 15th April where our home-based online learning journey continues! I’m sure we will all do our best to participate and navigate our way through this time. Remember to share and ask along the way to help make it a smooth and fun time.

We will send out a new email closer to the time with expectations for Term 2 and possibly some new sites to use to enhance our learning experience together! In the meantime, keep safe, look after each other and enjoy some special time together.

I know during this time there have been a lot of what we can’t do…but we leave you with things we know you CAN DO: BE KIND, BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE and BE CONNECTED.
