INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS AND ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS

To Parents and Caregivers of Children in Year 4, 5 and 6

We have decided once again to offer the children the opportunity to participate in the INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS AND ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS IN 2023. In this newsletter I have included a basic outline of the competitions, important dates and costs.  We hope some children will pick up on this opportunity to have a go at some of these but we do understand that these competitions/assessments are not for everybody.  All we are doing is offering your child the opportunity to have a go if they wish.  These competitions do have some cost associated with them.

Sitting Date Week of 7 August

Science – Year 4/5 45 minutes for 30 multi choice questions; Year 6 55 minutes for 40 multi choice questions

Sitting Date Week of 21 August

Maths – Year 4/5/6 45 minutes for 40 questions

All students receive a certificate and an individual student report indicating which questions they answered correctly and their score compared with the rest of the students tested. ICAS are an excellent preparation for national tests and the student report is useful for highlighting your child’s strengths and weaknesses.

Certificates are awarded for each year level as follows:

  • High Distinction to the top 1% of entrants
  • Distinction to the next 10% of entrants
  • Credit to the next 25% of entrants
  • Merit to the next 10% of students
  • Participation to all other participating students.

2023 Costs

All assessments cost NZ$20.70 each.

In the office foyer I have put a folder of information on these assessments (including sample questions papers) – please have a read if you are interested or alternatively check out the website mentioned above. Also there are some practice on line tests although there is a cost for these.  – https://www.icasassessments.com/icas-past-papers/

All entries and fees need to be in by 900am Thursday 29 June 2023
